Science
Science Olympics
For many years we have taken part in the Science Olympics across Merseyside and in 2007 we won the final. Every year the students are very enthusiastic about learning new skills, coming up with fresh ideas and understanding new concepts. They make models and the investigations are designed to stretch both their knowledge and their ability to work as a team in a pressurised situation.
‘Pupils rocket to success’
A group of Year 10 Pupils from St. Hilda’s Business and Enterprise School came first in the final of the Science Olympics at Liverpool University on Tuesday 17th July 2007. St. Hilda’s were the first Liverpool school to win the Science Olympics (sponsored by Aim Higher) for 5 years. The Aim Higher initiative encourages pupils to take places in, and raises their awareness of, the benefits and routes into Higher Education. The challenges are mainly physics and engineering based.
Science Club
The Science Club has been running for the last 18 months. The students enjoy the opportunity to try out exciting practicals that are outside the confines of the curriculum. It runs fortnightly and it attracts pupils from years 8 to 10.
Soap Making Club
The Science Department also hosts a Business and Enterprise Club which makes soaps. The Year 7 pupils make a wide variety of coloured, scented and different shaped soaps.
