French Exchange with our partner school: ‘Lycée Aubanel’ in Avignon (Provence)

In December a group of St Hilda’s girls (Y11, Y12, Y13) went to the beautiful city of Avignon in the South of France to engage in a collaborative project with Lycee Aubanel (whereby they interviewed local figure heads about the environment and tourism, helped by their penfriends).

This exchange funded by the British Council offered first hand experience of French culture: the girls stayed in their pen pal’s house, i.e. lived with a French family for a week, speaking French all day!

They experienced French school life, following their pen pals around lessons and to the canteen for lunch, and got loads of opportunities to practise their French, and to discuss cultural similarities and differences.

Trips around the city, to a vineyard, to the Christmas market and a crèperie were organised, too. All felt that the week went really fast, and the departure was rather tearful. Everyone agreed: what a great experience!!

Now – we have all been waiting for it: it is the French group’s turn to visit us in Liverpool! From Friday, 29th January- Friday, 5th of February the 21 French pen pals will be staying in English families and going to school in St Hilda’s!
