Ex-Pupil is Double Winner!

Ex-Pupil is Double Winner!
Back

02 December 2009

HELEN BLAKEMAN, a pupil at our school from 1983 to 1990, has scooped two prestigious awards. Last week, she was awarded an Emmy (the equivalent of an Oscar for television programmes, awarded in America) in the best Children and Young People category for her adaptation of Dustbin Baby, a story by the acclaimed children’s writer Jacqueline Wilson. Helen collected her award at the ceremony in New York.
This Sunday, Helen also received a children’s Bafta award in London, for the same screenplay, which tells the story of a teenager who tries to find out the truth about her abandonment as a baby.
Helen was the guest speaker at our Prize Night in 2008, when she told our girls about her screenplay, shown on BBC1 last Christmas.
We are all thrilled for Helen, and enormously proud of her achievements.
